Waiting....

Today i might be working a night, i 'volunteered' to do if if they were short. I haven't heard anything yet....

I am using this as an excuse for sitting in my pj's doing nothing as i might be up all night. I should do something with my life day
Hello there!!!

My name is Nell, i'm 22 and work as a Healthcare Assistant (nurse auxiliary) in a town in the UK. I was inspired to start this mostly thanks t the book 'Blood Sweat and Tea' by Tom Reynolds (Brian Kellet, http://www.briankellett.net/) which was taken from his blog about working in the london ambulance service.

What I will be writing about:

Food - I have always loved food and had an interest in cooking. About 4 years ago, i became bulimic. Since that time i have been trying to recover. I have a lot to say about bulimia, eating disorders and mental health in general. I have also been vegan for about a year. I am not the stereotype of an eating disorder - i've only ever had a BMI in the 'healthy' and 'overweight' ranges, i've never been hospitalised and im not doing badly getting better on my own :) I'm not the stereotype vegan, i don't talk about it much and i did it manly for the environmental reason rather than animal rights.

Life - As a front line healthcare worker, i see alot of life. People in hospital are often at their best and their worst. I was a student child nurse for a time (dropped out in the end) and had experience with midwifes and health visitors, now i mostly work with older people so i've helped to nurse people from birth to death.I work on a surgucal ward so we get a wide range of people.

Death - As with any healthcare worker, i have seen death. I've never been there when someone has died and, as of yet, not had to do CPR. But i have dealt with people after death. I did this for the first time recently and it's a strange experience.  As a student a couple of my wards had many oncology (cancer) patients. Also, bulimia makes you face your own mortality - i've you eat too much your stomach rips, if you purge you mess with your potassium levels and too much or too little potassium causes cardiac arrest.

I hope i've caught your interest :)
